It was pretty damp and dark at Abertillery Sports Centre but we were afforded a good welcome by Gwent league leaders Abertillery Bluebirds on their 3G surface
A decent size, and very vocal crowd, witnessed a game between two good attacking sides with the home side having the best of the first half but Town fought back and should have won it in normal time but had to battle for another 30 minutes to secure a 5th Round place
The home side took the lead as early as 15 minutes when, after a couple of early scares, Town failed to deal with a cross and Owain Goodenough scored a goal that their start deserved (1-0). Town didn't seem comfortable with the 3G Pitch or the home side's physicality and could have gone further behind if it wasn't for Steven Reeve in the Town goal. Town also lost Tom Grey to injury and this meant Tim Georgievsky dropped into defence with Kurtis Rees coming off the bench.
The second half was a much better affair from a Town perspective and early on both Liam Griffiths and Tom Blizzard had chances. But it was substitute Kurtis Rees with an excellent strike that levelled the scores (1-1). Six minutes later after a great run down the left by Declan Evans who linked up with Tom Blizzard and centre forward Liam Griffiths bundled the ball home. A great move and a deserved lead (1-2)
The game was starting to get a little feisty and was threatening to boil over following an incident between Goodenough and Town captain Craig Davies. The aggrieved Davies had the final word though with a great header which gave Bluebirds keeper Williams no chance (1-3)
Town should have put this game to bed now but fair play to the home side they never gave up and Matty Fowler scored twice in the last 10 minutes to take the game to extra time with his second a back heel over the keeper on 90 minutes (3-3)
Extra Time belonged to Town as firstly on 93 minutes Liam Griffiths scored (3-4) and then young Olly Schofield got his first goal for the Senior Team on 108 minutes (3-5). The Bluebirds worked hard to pull the game back but it was Town who go through into Monday's draw
We wish Abertillery Bluebirds all the very best for the rest of the season
