Potters Bar Town FC The official website of The Scholars

A Pett-y good performance

Another three points on the board

On a cold crisp evening, an excellent mid week crowd of 152 saw the inform real team from White Hart Lane visit the Pakex Stadium - the world famous home of the ‘Scholars’….

The visitors settled quickly and saw more of the ball. The ‘Scholars’ defence was coping well in their usual resolute manner with Berkley Laurencin also looking his usual commanding self in goal.

But on the balance of play it was not a surprise when the away side finally took the lead on 31 mins when Ralston Gabriel fired home after the home keeper had made an initial save with his legs.

It looked as if the visitors would arrive at half time with that lead but an inch perfect cross field ball from Lee O’Leary found the returning Daniel Pett collect the pass and cut in from the right and fire low and hard into the left hand corner to secure an equaliser on 44 mins.

HT 1-1

The home side started the second half in full throttle. Forcing the away side on the defensive and on 48 mins fellow debutant Ismael Ehui was pulled down in the box allowing Michael Murray to step up for the spot kick. Not content to make it easy his first attempt was parried by the keeper but he was nimble enough to collect the rebound to fire home for a ‘Scholars’ lead.

A few minutes later and a stunning run and shot from Ismail Ehui rattled the left hand post.

The away side continued to have a lot of the ball but could not muster telling efforts to worry the home side defence ably lead by Steve Brown.

Another chance late on saw a Michael Murray free kick from the left find an unmarked Sean Grace at the far post who headed across goal for Lee O’Leary to put in a point bank header that the keeper managed to claw it away.

Resolute defending had been the platform for this well deserved home win.
