After the disappointment of last week's cup exit the Scholars were well worth their 0-4 scoreline against a workmanlike Bedford Town.
Bedford started well and for twenty minutes they piled forward and were the stronger side. Mike Underwood had to stay alert and could only watch when on thirteen minutes a game of pinball in his penalty area ended with a Bedford shot coming back off the post. This seemed to galvanise Potters Bar, who were missing several first team regulars, and the reshaped back four, which included centre back Connor Sullivan drafted in from the Under 21's, began to get a grip of a very physical Bedford forward line. Slowly but surely the Scholars began to pass the ball around and Evandro Delgado, Josh Hutchinson and Dipo Akinyemi (another new recruit) combined well and looked threatening.
On 28 minutes an attacking midfield header from Ashley Harrison-Barker found Alex Shepherd out on the left he clipped the ball into the onrushing Josh Hutchinson who made room in a crowded penalty area and fired his shot into the roof of the net. Hutchinson went close minutes later when he picked the ball up on the left hand side of the Bedford penalty area and moving from left to right managed to hit a fierce drive which went left of the post.
On 32 minutes a long pass from Tom Boxer found Dipo Akinyemi wide on the right, he beat two defenders and hit a speculative cross which was chased down by Evandro Delgado who jinked his way passed two defenders and hit a perfect ball for Ankinyemi to smash home.
The second half saw the Scholars tighten the screw. On 49 minutes, some neat Scholars passing eventually found Alex Shepherd running strongly from midfield, his twenty yard strike gave the keeper no chance.
Bedford Town were now demoralised and aside a from a point blank strike which Mike Underwood spectacularly pushed over the bar they never really threatened. The game was put beyond their reach when on 84 minutes Josh Hutchinson yet again made space for himself just outside the box and fired home his second and the Scholars fourth.
A fine away performance which sees the Scholars go second in the table
