New Chairman Elected

By Paul Fryer

We are pleased to announce that John Newell has taken over from Les Lee as Chairman.

Anyone who is familiar with Rainworth MWFC will know that the name Les Lee is synonymous with the club and when the Chairman’s position became vacant he stepped into the breach.

Since that time in addition to the role of Club Secretary he has also amassed the positions of Safety Officer and last October the post of Treasurer. In the last few months it became common knowledge that he was seeking to relinquish the role of Chairman to pursue his first love that of Club Secretary.

At about the same time our Club Physiotherapist John Newell had a health scare and although it transpired to be not as serious as first thought, he made it known that he would like to be considered for a position on the committee.

After a brief discussion, it was suggested he took the role of Vice-Chairman and once he had become familiar with the role he would then graduate to the role of Chairman. That soon changed to the revised suggestion of him becoming Chairman and that Les would help ease him into the role, which he accepted and he was unanimously elected to the role of Chairman at last Monday’s AGM, with Les moving to Vice-Chairman.

John has held numerous physiotherapist posts in local football, over a long period of time, starting his career at Blackwell, before eventually coming to Rainworth from Dunkirk. He left for a brief time to take a post nearer home, but the pull of the Rainworth Family proved too much and he soon returned.

Whilst John has taken on the role of Chairman, he will still work with the players prior to the match, only treating players on the field if the injury is deemed serious.

As well as John, it should be noted that his lovely wife Mandy will continue to help within the club and his son Darren has kindly volunteered to take on the role of Club Photographer whenever he attends on matchdays, which is much appreciated.

Finally I would like to report that after only a short time in the post John appears to taking to the role like a duck to water.
