The Passing of a Legend

By Paul Fryer

His like will probably never be seen again, irreplaceable!!

It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of a Rainworth MWFC legend, Brian ‘Nip’ Thomas Martin in the early hours of Wednesday 5th December .

Nip ‘ as he was affectionately known had been associated with the club for over 60 years, since joining from Blidworth when he was just 18 years of age. His playing career ended at the age of 27, but his involvement continued in various roles, until recently, when his illness limited his contribution but not his spirit.

‘Nip’ has left a lasting memory on everyone ever associated with Rainworth MWFC and was held with affection in non-league circles. On the 31st of May this year he celebrated his 80th birthday an event I put on our Twitter feed. The comments and likes from past and present ‘Wrens’ spoke volumes of a wonderful character who I will always refer to as ‘Mr Rainworth’.

Our thoughts are with his wife Ann and her family at this very sad time and we offer them our sincere condolences.
