Wrens announce new manager

The new manager is Ben Marvin, whose most recent job was first team coach at National League Guiseley. Ben brings as his number two a familiar face to Wrens fans in Paul Rockley, who until departing to take up a coaching role at Evo-Stik League Premier Division Coalville Town, was a member of Denton’s coaching staff at Rainworth.
Marvin (pictured) worked at Guiseley and, prior to that at Barrow and Torquay United, under former Mansfield manager Paul Cox, as head of opposition analysis and first team coach. His earlier career saw him as first team coach at the then Evo-Stik League club Eastwood Town, and U18 assistant manager, tactical scout and head of performance analysis at Mansfield. Now he is eager to establish himself as a number one, in the same way that Craig Denton has done with Rainworth this season.
Denton’s departure has been brought about by the club’s heartbreaking decision to step down to a more affordable level, and the club wish him and his staff well wherever their next move takes them, but the pattern is the same, an eager young manager given his first taste of life in the hot seat with the hope of a similar level of success.
Rockley needs no introduction to Rainworth supporters. He moved on from the Wrens in October to take up the position of head coach of the development squad and stand-in first team coach, after first joining Rainworth under Julian Watts’ managership in 2016. He had earlier taken coaching and assistant manager roles at Eastwood Community and Clipstone.
The new management duo are well aware of the much tighter budgetary constraints that will be in place next season, and while Rainworth still await news from the FA as into which league they will be allocated, the aim will be a mixture of youth and senior players.
Marvin said: “I am delighted to have been appointed manager of Rainworth Miners’ Welfare Football Club. After speaking to chairman Les Lee and the board the club’s long term goals become clear.
“Even though the club will be stepping down from the Northern Counties East Football League it is being done with a vision of building a sustainable, ambitious model inclusive of the local community.
“I have brought in Paul Rockley as my assistant manager, who has fantastic knowledge of this level. I believe this, coupled with my most recent experience as first team coach at National League clubs Guiseley and Barrow over the past three years will give us the tools to begin the process of building Rainworth into a progressive and competitive community club.
“I look forward to everyone joining us during the coming season as we strive to begin reclimbing the football ladder in a sustainable manner, and can’t wait to get started.”
