Spalding are King , Just!!
By Paul Fryer
It took a stunning Gary King free-kick to separate the teams.
In a fiercely fought game both sides had chances in a first half were Rainworth MWFC more than matched their Evo-Stik opponents , Spalding United.
The only goal of the game came in the 28th minute, but in truth both sides could and should have scored before Gary King's sublime free-kick found the back of the net, giving Ben Townsend no chance.
There was nothing between the sides but the game as a spectacle came to an abrupt end in the 43rd minute when Julian Lawrence and Gary King were both shown red.
The second half was something of an anti-climax with both sides reduced to ten men although Spalding's Nathan Whitehead was unfortunate to see his fierce strike come back off the upright, with Townsend a mere spectator.
Rainworth almost equalised in the 68th minute when they nearly capitalised from a defensive error but the effort struck the crossbar and as it bounced on the line it was hooked clear.
In the end it was a good work-out for both teams, but Rainworth know they must start to convert some of the chances created by their good build-up play, if they are to get full reward for their efforts.
