Today was Rainworth MWFC’s last game in the NECL, after requesting voluntary relegation, a day for the travelling fans and players to say their goodbyes.

Rainworth were unrecognisable from the team that lost 3-0 last Saturday at Hall Road Rangers, albeit having to play 72 minutes with ten men, on that occasion.
For the second match running Rainworth MWFC had been on the wrong side of a 4-1 scoreline, albeit against the more established teams in the Division.
Pickering Town were the visitors to Kirklington Road, looking for three points to put pressure on AFC Mansfield and Pontefract Collieries in the race for the title and promotion.

Rainworth travelled to the League’s form team Barton Town, nine wins and two draws in their last eleven league games.
AFC Mansfield came to Kirklington Road knowing a victory and a home win mid-week against the chasing Pontefract Collieries, would put pressure on them, and with it the possibility of the title.

The three matches in the NCEL Premier Division this evening produced 23 goals. However, those at the match between Rainworth MWFC and Bridlington Town AFC, witnessed a goal-less draw.
The last thing a side can do when playing one of the top Premier teams is gift them goals and Rainworth MWFC contributed to all four against Handsworth Parramore.
