Rebels vs Swans Game Report

By Rick Burns

Rebels v Swans in Nations Capital and Adios Aido

The Rebels took to the road for the second time in 2 weeks as they made the long trek to the nation’s Capital. This road trip is always a favorite on the schedule and the Rebels came out in big numbers including a couple of semi retirees Frog and Monty pulling on the boots for the first time since 2016.

The game started well for the Rebels as they shook off the long drive and immediately played to the Bodz crafted game plan. Wizz, Sos and Bridge all combined up front for a couple of early goals and the mids were squaring the battle in a hotly contested opening term. The well drilled Swans did not relent and they kicked the last 3 goals of the quarter to take a small lead into the first break.
Q1 Score: Rebels 2.0.12 to Swans 4.2.26

The second quarter saw the Swans carry their momentum from the latter part of the first as they forced the ball forward time after time. Scuba was doing what he could to repel the constant attacks as he took several marks and rookie Fraser was putting his hand up but the pressure and superior ball movement by the Swans allowed them to extend their advantage going into the half time break.
Q2 Score: Rebels 2.0.12 to Swans 6.9.45

The third quarter started with the Rebels really fighting hard to keep the Swans at bay and get back to contested game. A couple of Rookies Udai and Sexton were leading the way and they are both showing some real promise with the more they play. Despite the Rebels efforts the Swans were getting too many forward entries to handle and now the scoreboard pressure was coming with it as they kicked 4 goals to none and finished he quarter with the game all but won.
Q3 Score: Rebels 2.1.13 to Swans 10.11.71

With just pride on the line now Coach Bodz made some changes with Swanny going forward, Fraser into the Ruck and Bucky onball. This seemed to spark the boys as they managed to get a goal early and had much more of the pay in our half of the field. The teams traded goals all quarter but the Rebels went down to the tune of 10 goals. A disappointing but eye opening result as the boys know we have a lot more work and improvement in us.
Final Score: Rebels 5.2.32 def by Swans 13.12.90

Goals: Wizz 3, Sos 1, Bridge 1.

Warrior of the Game: Aido

A big shout out to Aido who is heading to Europe and then back home, you have been a true Rebel warrior and will be missed. Also a big thank you to the boy’s who made the road trip and didn’t play, that’s Rebels spirit at its best.
