Round 4 Review: Rebels defeat Guelph Gargoyles

By Phillip Wild

The Rebels made the long road trip to Guelph and took down the Gargoyles to the tune of 20 goals.

The Rebels had one of the hardest road trips in footy making their way to Guelph to take on the Gargoyles. After the long drive the warm up seemed flat and as Fabsy and Scuba rallied the boys for the pre-game speech no one expected what happened next. The Rebels came out firing, piling on early goals with displays of dominance all over the ground. Hodor gave the boys first use out of the middle with ball magnets Twoba and Chris getting plenty of it to set up early goals for K.Duff and Kid. Goals came thick and fast with Rebels 8 goals 5 behinds and Guelph unable to trouble the scorers by the end of the quarter.

Going into the second quarter, Coach Bodzy set the team with a few guys playing in unfamiliar positions to develop our depth. JC took over the ruck duties and showed his athleticism dominating the Gargoyles ruckman to keep the Rebels in control and moving forward. One guy who did not look out of place was Sammy O’Sullivan, making his debut as a Rebel and his long-awaited return to football. Before long SOS marked hard on the boundary and slotted a tough goal to fully announce his return. Great to see SOS out there!

Half Time

Things only got worse for the Guelph team as the Rebels continued to dominate the second half. Hegsy and Filthy provided plenty of run from the half back and Chris Day showed his ability as a lock down defender as the Guelph team struggled to score. Up forward Wizza was lurking the packs at front and centre although his early season yips in front of goal continued as he popped one through for a behind.

Throughout the final quarter Rebels flexed their muscle and continued to dominate. JC and Hodor continued to play a vital role through the ruck, winning the taps and making life simple for our ground level ball winners. Aido showed he could play at ground level and in the air winning the contested footy and taking some strong grabs along with 2 goals.

Final Scores:

Rebels - 25.10.160
Guelph - 5.2.30

Goal Kickers:

4 - Duffy, Fabs, Kid
3 - SOS, Chris.A
2 - Digga, Wiz, Aido
1 - Filthy

One more thing...a note from our sponsor, Amsterdam Brewery

We are lucky enough to have Amsterdam sponsor us again 2016, providing us with some delicious beers. We enjoy Amsterdam’s delicious brews “responsibly” of course.

Amsterdam has been brewing delicious beers since 1986. They began as a small brewpub downtown on John St and have grown to include multiple locations and can now brew 6500 hectolitres of beer. With a larger scale they have never lost their ability to brew delicious and unique beers. Let's help get #AmsterdamGoodBeer into the hands of the good Torontonian people.

So we raise an Amsterdam Beer in gratitude of the support of Amsterdam and we will continue to enjoy their fine brews for years to come.
