Win Takes us Back Top

By

Redbridge beat Takeley 3-0 and with it go back to the top of the Essex Senior League with just 7 matches remaining

Redbridge went into this match against 5th placed Takeley knowing a win would help towards their promotion challenge whilst at the same time effectively end their opponents outside chance.

Recent new signing Joshua Skyes came straight into the Motormen starting line up alongside leading ESL goal scorer Brian Moses.

The home side looked dangerous from the offset and caused panic in the Takeley defence as Thomas Gogo cut inside from the right flank beating his man before crossing for Reside Coxi-Sebastfao who was about to shoot before the ball was hacked away to safety.

Takeley then attacked and a dangerous cross from Andre Humphrey fell just wide of the far post.

The two wide men for Redbridge were both looking lively and it was Coxi-Sebastfao who found a cross from finding the head of Sykes who saw his effort land into arms the arms of goalkeeper Ronnie Yates.

Danger then for Redbridge as a Takeley attack ended when a cross was knocked back across goal finding Humphrey who made contact but Lewis Greene was equal to it and made the save.

Redbridge opened the scoring on 14 minutes when Coxi-Sebastfao showed good persistence on the left before digging out a deep cross which was knocked down by Skyes into the path of MOSES who controlled the ball and although his shot lacked power it crept past Yates at the near post and dropped over the line.

Takeley immediately came forward from the resulting kick off and ex Redbridge player Mitchell Das found space but could only fire across goal and wide.

The Motormen shortly after doubled their advantage through a superb solo effort from Gogo, he picked the ball out wide on the right before cutting inside leaving two defenders in his wake before unleashing a curling effort which flew into the top corner leaving Yates with no chance.

Takeley were now on the back foot as Redbridge looked to wrap the game up before half time, Skyes fell after a heavy challenge but Coxi-Sebastfao picked the ball up and continued his run in on goal before narrowly shooting wide.

Patrick Duggan then shot over from distance before Shaun Harris found himself in unfamiliar territory inside the box but dragged his shot wide.

Coxi-Sebastfao then released Moses who outmuscled his marker before he then tried to poke the ball past Yates however the keeper stood firm and made a good save

Into the second period and Redbridge continued to create chances but were guilty of over playing and giving the ball away which allowed Takeley to push forward as they
Redbridge not holding onto ball for long allowing takeley to push forward.

Das was fouled and the free kick was awarded which Bryn Thorpe could only shoot straight at Greene.

Coxi-Sebastfao then brought the ball down and laid it off to Gogo whose powerful shot was superbly blocked by Mike Castle who felt the full force into his midriff and went to ground winded.

Takeley then produced some good play down the right as Das drilled in a low cross which was cut out by Greene with Carl Mullings at the far post ready to pounce.

A Redbridge corner was partially cleared eventually falling to Duggan who saw his fierce drive diverted away for a corner, the resulting kick was flown in finding Moses who headed just over.
A defensive error then saw Moses in on goal but his effort lacked any power and was turned away for a corner which was then headed over by Courtney Homans.

A controversial moment followed when Moses and George Powell came together leaving the referee no choice but to send both men from the field, in amongst the altercation a penalty was awarded which Gogo stepped up and sent Yates the wrong way to grab his second of the game.

Das had a half chance for Takeley but could only succeed in finding the side netting before substitute William Green came forward beating a couple of defenders before being fouled but the resulting kick from Nick Barrett was easily gathered by Greene.

To their credit the away side continued to come forward and a good cross from George Wappett found Castle who got in front of Eljay Worrell but his powerful headed was well held.

That proved to be the final chance of the game as Redbridge picked up a good 3 points and with other sides around them dropping points they go 2 points clear at the top of the table
