End to end thriller sees Rotherham continue their unbeaten record

This weekends fixture saw Rotherham taking on local rivals Sheffield Bankers. Rotherham had enjoyed a fast start to the season, winning seven of their first eight games. They looked to maintain the excellent run of form against a Bankers side who had a mixed bag of results.

The game started slow, with both teams eager to minimise mistakes. However, possession changed hands often, with both sides giving the ball away unnecessarily. Rotherham then settled into their game, building spells of pressure which would ultimately lead to the breakthrough. Some quick interplay between the Rotherham defence and midfield lead to a chance for the Rotherham attacking line, which was finished neatly by a Jack Hartley and Ben Davis combination. The Rotherham goal seemed to kick the home side back into life, with a quick break through the heart of the Rotherham midfield resulting in a neat finish in the bottom corner. The match continued to go back and forth, this time with the home side taking the lead. Rotherham were keen to bounce back from this, applying pressure to the Bankers defence with another breakthrough coming just before half time. A free hit played across the top of the area was neatly finished by Fraser Andrews. The sides entered half time level at two goals a piece as a result of an evenly matched half.

The second half started and the oppositions game plan was clear. With an injury to Luke Bridger early in the half, the home side were keen to try and catch Rotherham on the break. Sure enough this tactic worked and Bankers were soon 2 goals ahead. Eager to maintain their unbeaten form though Rotherham fought back and with a quick succession of goals were soon back on even terms at 4-4 after 2 goals from Ben Davis. Jack Hartley then doubled his tally to give Rotherham the lead once again, this was short lived though as Bankers soon equalised. Finally, four minutes from time, Rotherham won a penalty corner, which was put away by Fraser, his second of the game. Bankers were this time unable to bounce back thanks to some resilient defending from Rotherham's midfield and back line.

The game finished 6-5, with Rotherham picking up yet another three points and continuing their rich run of form. Now on to Leeds at home in next weekends fixture.
