Rugeley Rugby Club

By John - W Parkes

This is an appeal From Rugeley Rugby Club to the people of Rugeley.

Rugeley Rugby Club is the oldest running continuous sports club in the town founded in 1947 we have 3 senior teams and 2 junior teams. We are affiliated to the Staffs Rfu we are self-funding and we are still running with relative success today.
From its inception the club has had various headquarters to work from Hagley hall, Baggies, to Lea Hall and currently at the Vine inn Rugeley.
To all these venues we Rugeley Rugby Club would like to Thank You all, as a local sports club we endeavour where possible to help the town in various ways, from helping with the Charter fair to helping with various other functions within the Town.
In recent years we have become a progressive club and have increased with the help of the Cannock & Rugeley Chronicle the clubs profile in the local press. A report and pictures are published in the sports pages almost every week. And with the help of R.O.S.A. (Rugeley open space association) we have acquired the use of a former youth facility near St Augustine’s Church for the use of playing our games each week.
This facility is available to all clubs operating in the Rugeley area, The Facility is completely maintained at no cost to R.O.S.A. by the Rugby club and its members.
We cut and maintain the playing field, and we are currently redeveloping the disused youth buildings, once again at cost to the Rugby club and not the town.
But do not worry we are not asking for money all we ask is that whomever it is that keeps entering by force into the building and causing wanton vandalism, please can you STOP, we are trying to renovate this building for the use of all sports clubs in our town.
If you would need to expel the energy you put into vandalising our sports venue then feel free to come and join the oldest and best sports club in the Town Of Rugeley, you will be made very welcome.
So like we said at the beginning of this article the people of Rugeley Please help us to Build Rugeley Rugby Club and it facilities into the best in the county that all the people of our great Town can use.
And if you and your friends are responsible for the Vandalism of our club facility, Come and talk to us, join us, be part of us, BUT PLEASE STOP VANDALISING US.
