A pleasing result and an even better performance

A pleasing result and an even better performance against a strong Guilsfield outfit who have been in the top four three times in the last four seasons, including last year. Ruthin looked comfortable throughout but were unable to make their possession count until Llyr Morris scored a difficult volley on the half hour mark as he guided the ball past Mike Jones in the Guilsfield goal following a good cross from the left. This woke Guilsfield who had a period of pressure themselves leading to some very good long throws which goalkeeper Ryan Goldston did well to cope with. Ruthin soon gained back control and hit the post before the half time whistle.
The second half produced good football with Ilan Hughes, Osian Davies and Gwion Owen all playing well and pulling the strings. Ruthin played with confidence, passing the ball well and keeping possession. It was Llyr Morris who struck again with a good headed goal on 62 minutes from a fine cross from Cai Davies on the left who was another who had a good game.
Ruthin continued to dominate and had an opportunity to finish the game off when Gwion Owen was fouled inside the box giving the referee no option but to award a penalty. Ruthin had missed two penalties on the trot before this game so it was down to captain Ilan Hughes to step up and take responsibility. However, the tale of woe continues as Ilan blasted the ball over the bar with 5 minutes to go.
Thankfully it didn’t effect the result as Ruthin saw the game out to complete a comfortable win, with a clean sheet,to push them up to 5th in the table.
