This was Shepshed's longest away journey of the season ...


and after relinquishing their Loughborough Charity Cup Crown on penalties to Barrow on Wednesday evening they went in search of three points in The Bakers Midland Football Alliance.

Westfields had the first chance of the game but Ryan Thacker was equal to Craig Jones's shot, four minutes later Shepshed had their first real chance of the game but Alun Webb's free kick was cleared.

Shepshed took the lead on twenty minutes Steve Chaplin meeting a right sided cross sending it back in the same direction passed Matt Gwynne in the Westfields goal.

Westfields pushed for an equaliser four minutes later Thacker making a double save then two minutes later Craig Jones's free kick rebounded off the post.

Westfields equalised under controversy Callum Thompson deemed to foul Luke Griffiths which looked a free kick at best but the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Brad Birch slotting underneath Thacker. From the aftermath Luke Pritchard was sent off for an altercation with the assistant referee.

Shepshed restored their lead just before the break Alun Webb's corner was met by a thunderous header from Louis Guest.

Although down to ten men Shepshed started the second half strongly on the forty ninth minute Gwynne was forced into a save from Webb and then Thompson's shot was deflected wide.

Shepshed continued to press Chaplin crossed for Zak Ginvert but Gwynne was alert to the danger. Ginvert continued to be a threat on fifty nine minutes Thompson cross was met by his head but it sailed over the bar and two minutes later Liam Tuck found him again but with the same result.

Just after the hour mark the home side levelled with Jamie Cuss firing underneath Thacker .

Westfields were beginning to show their man advantage and making the extra man tell making Shepshed work and on eighty two minutes they took the lead for the first time through Scott Jackson.

Two minutes later Shepshed were reduced to nine men with Connor Bennett receiving hos second yellow card and the game petered out as the home side claimed all three points.
