Super 8s win at Freeland, Year 6s lose narrowly at Tew

By Graham Nelson

The Super 8s performed brilliantly to beat the ever hospitable Freeland - one of the most enjoyable away fixtures in the calendar.

Year 6 match report from Will Sargent:

Our first match was against Great and Little Tew.

It was a good game but they managed to beat us into second place! 69 v 34

Captained by Issy llamas, who took a brilliant 2 wickets, and also had a charming and encouraging word to say about everyone’s performance. Lovey to hear. Selflessly did not bat higher up the order.

Max Faulkner who bowled really well and managed to snag a wicket. Scored a 4 and some singles to keep the score ticking over

George Harper, did some great wicket keeping, and kept his wicket for a good stretch, when he did get into taking the quick runs he helped move the score board on

Findlay Knox our top scorer. Well batted. Knowing we needed to chase a score he hit out hard to try and close the gap. Solid bowling and some heroics fielding.

Jev Osman, Took a wicket and nearly took another, well played. Batting wise kept his wicket for a good length of time and next time needs to throw the bat at the poor deliveries

Luke Sargent had a good bowl and tried to throw the bat around to get some runs but lost his wicket.

Eva Scates had a great bowling attack, good and straight deliveries, did not get to bat this time.

Jack Larkin who did some inspired fielding cutting off several 4s and took a wicket, lovely play. Just need to unleash the batting.

William Taylor, carrying a trampoline injury, William managed to carry on, putting in a solid performance with the ball and bat.

Maya Das, demon bowling, much improved and just a shame she did not get to bat this time

Laurie Wessel, some good bowling, and useful with the bat, hit some powerful shots. Needs to look for the runs next time

Overall for our first game it was lovely to see the team encouraging each other and playing some good cricket. We will need to be quicker between the wickets and more hungry to score runs.

Thank you to those that helped with the scoring.
