Ryman League Division One North Play Off Final Review ~ 06/05/12

By Simon Cullum

Enfield Town will be playing Ryman League Premier Division football next season after winning the Division One North play-off final against Needham Market on Sunday.
In front of a crowd of 817 at Town`s new Queen Elizabeth Stadium, it was a strangely low-key affair in which both sides looked like this was a game too far. Needham Market looked especially tired, having only booked their place in the final on Friday night with an extra-time victory over Tilbury, while the home side at least had an extra 24 hours recovery time after their semi-final win over Grays Athletic that also needed overtime.
What turned out to be the only goal of the game came after 18 minutes, courtesy of a Walid Matata header. Later Market had a penalty appeal turned down and goal disallowed for offside, but Town just about deserved their win and a chance to play Premier Division football.
