Maldon Beat Soham 3-1 Again
Two former Soham players scored as Maldon and Tiptree recorded their second 3-1 win of the season against the Greens.
The visitors came into the game on the back of consecutive 3-0 victories against sides challenging for a play-off position, and named an unchanged starting line-up from the team which beat Haringey Borough last weekend, with Callum Russell making his one hundredth appearance for the club.
The hosts started the game quickly, creating a number of early attacks with Akinsanya, Bailey and Henry all having opportunities before opening the scoring in the sixteenth minute when Renee laid off Clampin’s left sided delivery for Kieran Bailey, who started last season at the Lane, to place his shot into the bottom corner. Six minutes later, Clampin received a ball over the Soham defence to go one on one with Pope, who managed to get a touch to his shot and deflect it wide. Slowly Soham started to get into the game, but rarely threatened the home goal, having a couple of efforts blocked, with Pope making a low save to tip Akinsanya’s shot around the post just before the interval.
Early in the second half, Bailey fired a shot across goal before Soham had their first meaningful opportunity ten minutes after the restart, however Haigh kept out Carden’s volley at his near post. Akinsanya had another effort across goal before the Greens equalised in the 65th minute when Craig Gillies scrambled home his tenth goal of the season from Carden’s corner. However within four minutes, the Jammers had restored the lead when Renee was given room to make his way into the area from the right, and deliver the ball across the area for Olu Akinsanya, who had a short spell with Soham towards the end of the 2015 season, with the striker having an easy finish at the far post. Both sides made changes as Soham went in search of their second equaliser with Maldon making sure of the victory on the stroke of full time with Rhys Henry finding room to cut in from the right and curl his shot into the far corner.
