After just three minutes Stamford had the first chance of the game after a poor challenge by Rugby’s centre back Richard Lavery on Ryan Robbins as he ran down the right wing. The following free kick was whipped in by David Bell to the back post where it was met by the foot of Delroy Gordon who poked into the side netting.
Following this chance, in both the seventh and ninth minutes, speculative long range efforts from Rugby were put high and wide of Denton’s goal.
On the 25th minute Rugby had the next chance of the game as their number 9 David Kolodynski cut inside from the wing with some nice dribbling but could only fire wide.
Four minutes later Jevani Brown was played through on goal after a Jordan Smith flick on but was unable to get a shot away. Soon after Stamford were on the attack again as Ryan Robbins snatched onto a loose throw in and after running away from the defence fired a shot across goal which was well saved by Louis Connor, then fell to Elliot Sandy who was unable to convert.
Soon after this spell of good play from Stamford, Rugby were on the attack again with Sam Belcher shooting straight at Denton in the Stamford goal.
On the 35th minute Jordan Smith picked up on a loose pass from Rugby where he slid it through for Ryan Robbins, who ran through and shot well. This was saved by the keeper but was still goal bound but was cleared of the line by the Rugby defence.
Just before half time there was a late scare for Stamford as a long ball from the Rugby defence flew over the Stamford back four, who appealed for an offside, which didn’t come, which lead to David Kolodynski being in on goal but from out wide was unable to curl it in.
In the second half Stamford came out much the better side with the introduction of Jake Duffy for Elliot Sandy. This allowed Jevani Brown more freedom to make something happen.
Stamford had the early chances as Ryan Robbins put a shot, with the outside of his foot, wide of the post after a cleared Jake Duffy cross.
After this bright start from Stamford, Rugby took the lead on the 67th minute when Jake Wooley played some nice passing with his midfield before crossing in for David Kolodynski to finish.
Stamford came back after this goal and continued their dominance. On the 70th minute Jevani Brown danced around the Rugby defence on the edge of the area, where lunges from the Rugby defence could not halt his progress, and he fired home past the Rugby keeper to draw the Reds level. Stamford continued to dominate and created half chances with Delroy Gordon, Jevani Brown and David Bell all missing chances.
On the 90th minute Sam Mulready replaced Ryan Robbins.
But late in stoppage time Stamford got their reward for their dominance after Ex-player Nathan Fox had put a free kick over at the other end, a long ball up field wasn’t dealt with by the Rugby defence. Jevani Brown latched on to the pass and then calmly finished into the bottom corner to snatch the 3 points for Stamford.
