Stamford started brightly with Courtney Meade running at the Market Drayton defence who backed off, giving him the chance to shoot from range, forcing Ashley Rawlins to tip over. Three minutes later a good free kick to the back post, by Jake Duffy, gave Delroy Gordon a good chance but his header was deflected over the bar for a corner.
On the tenth minute a great block prevented Stamford from taking the lead as Grant Ryan played the ball inside to Courtney Meade whose shot was blocked by Andrew Hartlebury. Two minutes later another great save from Ashley Rawlins, in goal for Drayton, kept Stamford out as Jake Duffy put Jordan Hempenstall in on goal but his shot was saved. From the resulting corner the ball dropped back to Jake Duffy whose shot was blocked. The ball fell to Sam Hill whose shot was again well saved by Rawlins. The next Daniels forward to miss a good opportunity was Grant Ryan whose shot was again well saved at the near post.
Just a minute later Ryan would miss another golden opportunity as he rose highest from a Jake Duffy cross but could only head over. Rawlins was again called into action to make another great save, this time from Jake Duffy, on the 34th minute as he tipped a long range strike over the bar using the full advantage of his height. Two minutes later Stamford had another great chance as a Grant Ryan cross was flicked down by Courtney Meade to Danny Draper whose shot was well blocked by Hartlebury. Just before the break Jake Duffy won a fifty-fifty on the halfway line then drove forward, his shot was blocked, the ball dropped to Hempenstall who dragged his shot wide.
Stamford started the second half like they finished the first as Jake Duffy’s volley went just wide of the post. A minute later Jordan Hempenstall shot on the turn but he didn’t make a clean contact and it went straight into the arms of Rawlins. On the 60th minute a Jake Duffy corner came to Grant Ryan who headed well wide. In the next minute Market Drayton had their first shot that threatened the Stamford Goal as William Whieldon’s free kick skimmed the bar. Just after this scare Courtney Meade was played in on goal, he had plenty of time to finish but blazed his shot well over the bar.
On the 75th minute all these missed chance would come back to haunt the Daniels as a cross was not dealt with at the back post, it fell to Shaquille Whittingham whose shot went in at the far post. Two minutes later the Daniels had another great chance and should have levelled. A Curtis Hartley cross came to Jordan Hempenstall who nodded down to Josh Nodder whose shot went just over the bar. Three minutes after this change the game was over as Andre James scored one of the goals of the season as he smashed in a free-kick from 25 yards straight into the top corner. In stoppage time Rogan Mcgeorge picked up the ball on the edge of the box but his shot was tipped around the post by the Drayton keeper. From the corner Drayton counter attacked with Andre James running free in on the Stamford goal but player of the month Sam Donkin saved well.
