Matthew Smith in U16 Glasgow Local Pathway Identification Festival

Matthew was one of 72 boys selected for the U16 Glasgow Local Pathway Identification Festival on Sunday 12th August. Four U16 teams were formed from across the West Region with Matthew playing in the Glasgow Giants

The first Regional Selection Festival was held at GHA Rugby Club and was the players' first opportunity to show off the skills developed during a 6-week training program over the summer.

All the players have progressed through the U16 pathway that started back in April within their Regions at the Key National Themes Skill Camps. All the squads have had a series of sessions led by the team of coaches and development officers. Through these sessions the players have focused on Scottish Rugby’s National Coaching Themes.

These themes are the core basis for identification and selection to the National Age Grade Teams – all players within these squads will have to continually perform the National Themes within all matches. This will also be the core basis for selection through to the Glasgow Squads.
