Nick Weston stands down as Chairman after 8.5 years

By nick weston

Chairman and joint founder to stand down to concentrate on other opportunities. Will continue as chair of London Rugby League management group.

After nearly 9 years at the helm of the Sussex Merlins cub, Nick Weston, Chair and founder has informed the committee of his intention to stand down.
The club had already made the decision not to run open age or junior sections in 2018 but to concentrate on developing a number of minis teams across the Brighton and Hove area.
Nick commented – now is the right time for me to hand over the reins to someone new who will drive the club forward. It has been an absolute privilege to be part of this club but for now I need to give the time back to my family and my career. I will support the committee in their search for a new chair and hope to get my own kids involved in the mini’s this summer. I will remain involved with the game through being an independent chair of the London Rugby League.
Club secretary Steve Jones added – quite simply without Nick there wouldn’t be rugby league in Sussex. We are eternally grateful for his leadership and commitment to the club over these last 8 plus years. We fully support his reasons for stepping away and hope to welcome him back to the club in the future.
The club will now focus on restructuring and developing the minis program in Brighton and Hove. For details please get in touch with Mighty Sussex Merlins Minis on facebook.
