Tamworth Lose Again
By LEA McGREEVY
Camp Hill too strong for visitors
Tamworth defended valiantly for 20 minutes against a Camp Hill side pushing for promotion and high in confidence after beating table topping Stourbridge last time out. But the home side broke the deadlock with a converted try and from that point on grew in confidence even more
Tamworth reduced the deficit with a
Danny Norton penalty but two more converted try’s for Camp Hill and two rare penalty misses from Norton meant the home side went into the break with a healthy 21-3 lead.
If Tamworth were to come back in this fixture then they would need the next score. Unfortunately this was not to be the case as Camp Hill came out meaning business and scored almost immediately after the break 28-3.
That try visibly knocked the wind out of Tamworth’s sails and as Camp Hill piled on the pressure the visitors were struggling to get out of their own half and any attempt was soon snuffed out by the hosts who were in buoyant form and soon raced into a 40-3 lead and Tamworth were well beaten.
It would be Tamworth though who would have the final score of the day with a consolation try almost on the final whistle from
Simon Sykes.
On a day when it’s easy to be negative there were some positives the scrum was excellent and was an area where Tamworth were on top all day. Also a rare appearance in the first team these days for
Jez Sandhu where he put in a sterling 40 minutes in the front row.
