Blidworth Welfare returned to winning ways in the Central Midlands Black Dragon Division South as they came away from Carnarvon Street with all three points following a 2-0 victory over Teversal Reserves. Two late goals from Lewis Weaver at his old ground was the difference between the sides on a chilly November afternoon.

The first chance of the game fell to the visitors as striker Josh Brentnall was brought down from behind on the edge of the box. The resulting free-kick was taken by Jonathan Drake, his effort flying along the floor past the wall before being comfortably collected by the keeper with three minutes played.

Josh Hollis nearly got caught out for Blidworth in the opposite net as a long range shot from Kurtis Bamford found the keeper just in front of his goal line. The chance nearly creeped in through the gap above the keeper’s head but eventually just landed on the top of the netting.

Just before the break, Teversal’s Brandon Clarke saw his header fly just past the front post from the centre after Bamford had produced some trickery on the wing to beat his marker and put the ball in from the right side.

Up the other end, two of Blidworth’s young attackers nearly broke the deadlock themselves in the last chance of the half. Winger Charlie Hardwick found himself in space as he broke down the right wing, a clever flick saw him cut inside before he selflessly played in Lewis Weaver who was beaten to the ball by Jason Johnson as he burst forward into the box.

Bradley Cox caused problems early in the second half for Teversal Reserves as he first headed a potential opener just wide at the front post after connecting to the end of a ball in from the left side. Then three minutes later he wriggled between two defenders on the edge of the box to get a shot away but it could only fly over.

Just before the hour mark, Blidworth goalkeeper Josh Hollis was called into action to tip a Brett Watson header past the post after Bradley Newby had swung the ball into the box. The home side were also denied by the post in the 75th minute as a Kurtis Bamford cross was met by Bradley Cox at the back of the box but his strike could only hit the woodwork and fly out.

With ten minutes remaining, Blidworth were finally able to break through. A quick fire counter attack started with a cross field ball which landed at the feet of substitute Triston Burrell on the right wing, he played it through the middle to Bradley Holmes who in turn slotted it across for Lewis Weaver on the left side of the box who took a touch before knocking it into the corner.

Bradley Newby had two good chances to get Teversal back into the game as time started to run out. He first attempted a free kick from the right edge of the box which was able to evade the wall but could only fly straight at the keeper. He then saw a header loop over at the back post after getting to the end of a long ball from Bradley Cox.

The tie was wrapped up with just two minutes remaining as Lewis Weaver got his second of the game. The move started in similar fashion to the first goal as Triston Burrell received a long ball from the back courtesy of Ed Heginbotham. The forward saw his first attempted cross bounce off Phillip Griffiths but after the ball fell straight back into his path, he was able to pick out Weaver free at the back post who took a touch before again accurately placing it in the corner.
