Ladies 2nds host Harrogate 3rds.

By Mike Rushmere

A great performance against top of the division.

Saturday 24th November the Thirsk 2nds played host to Harrogate 3rds who were unbeaten this season. The game started very evenly with both teams making chances but were unable to finish either from good defending or goalkeeping. Eventually Harrogate opened the scoring with a long cross from the right into the D which was touched in at the left post by the Harrogate forward. However if Harrogate thought they were now in for an easy game they were in for a shock with the whole Thirsk team pressing the Harrogate midfield and defence and winning the ball back frequently, in particular player of the match Jess with her constant running and tackling never giving Harrogate a moments rest. Thirsk got their just reward when a reverse stick shot by Holly beat the goalkeeper to make the score 1-1 at half time.
The second half started with Harrogate creating chances and one fell fortunately to the one player in the D who finished past the Thirsk keeper Chelsea. Chelsea then kept Thirsk in the game with several excellent saves including a save from a penalty stroke which was kept out with a very low dive to her left side. This was even applauded by the Harrogate penalty taker herself. Thirsk continued to compete with Harrogate to the final whistle but were unable to get an equiliser which their play deserved, losing the game 2-1. Player of the Match Jess Merrin.
