U12 Boys upset the opposition.

By Mike Rushmere

Sunday 7th October had the the U12 boys(and 1 Girl) at Leeds Adel.

A fun and victorious morning of hockey was had by our newly-formed U12 Boys team. No one knew quite what to expect, never having played together, but every member of the team played their socks off and did Thirsk proud. Cameron kicked things off with Bingley, putting 4 goals away very tidily. Pressure came on the next game against Gateshead, where midfield and defence had to work much harder. It was end to end stuff with Hugo and Joshua intercepting strong balls from the opposition and delivering them cleanly to our forwards. A couple of short corners didn't throw us off, superbly defended by our U10 players Alistair and GK, Oliver, who ensured we kept a clean sheet and a goalless draw result.
Chapeltown were next, and having just scored two cracking goals for this team (who were short of numbers), Sebastien was then required to defend against them. Strong communication was now running through Thirsk's fledgling team as they got into the swing of things, with fluid and accurate passing and some all-round good hockey. Joseph Horn created great opportunities sending balls into the D and Lexi chasing every ball down. In the end it was Cameron, who managed to get one passed the goalkeeper.
Our final match, against York, saw us build on our new found confidence with the team finding themselves 3-0 up, after a short space of time. Finally, Lexi's determination and grit saw her put a great ball past York's keeper, for a well deserved goal, making the final score, 4-0.
Great effort everyone. Thanks go to parents for their brilliant support, and of course, Ewan, for coaching and umpiring!
