What can only be described as a convincing victory on Thorne's return to Yorkshire 3 with a 49-3 win over Leeds Modernians, the 1sts will look to improve on several aspects of their performance, with some pre-season still in their legs. Despite running in 7 tries, and a 100% start off the tee for Tom Holt, the lads know that there is plenty of polish to be applied should an immediate return to Yorkshire 2 be on the cards. After a great performance from 1-20, strong defence and a usual dominant scrum was the order of the day. Strength & Conditioning seems to have paid off, with the home side staying strong until the end.

This week sees the arrival of Baildon to Coulman Street, with the Brian Hawkins Memorial Trophy up for grabs. Having met over the last few pre-seasons, it will be the side's first competitive game in a few years. This weeks visitors started their campaign with a 17-40 loss to fellow South Yorkshiremen and top 4 favourites, Hemsworth. With little to report from the Yorkshire forum, it will be interesting to see how they will approach the game this weekend. We welcome Steve Roberts of the South Yorkshire Referees Society this week, with what may be his first trip to the club.

The 2nd XV are on the road again, this time to Barnsley to face their 2nd XV. This weekend saw a depleted side due to 1st XV call ups and impressive pre-season performances from last season's development squad players. Despite this, the side travelled with a large squad and played a strong, well-drilled team in Sheffield 3rds. With tries from this week's vice-skipper Will Johnson and a try for Adam Fellowes, in his first ever competitive game of rugby. Having played Barnsley 2nd with a bare 15 players last season as a Development side, Thorne were convincingly beaten by 60 points, so the lads will look to improve on last season's performance.
