With both team stepping down the from the league above, both the 1st and 2nd XV get their seasons underway this weekend.
The 1st team sees Leeds Modernians return to Thorne, after the clubs 2 year absence from Yorkshire 3. With a string season last year, the 'Mods@ will look to build on a 4th place finish, giving Thorne a tough start to life back in Yorkshire 3. Thorne know that they will need to be on the same kind of form that saw them crowned winners of the Yorkshire Silver Trophy and winning many high profile games towards the end of last season, despite relegation. Always a force at home, Thorne v Mods is set to be a great battle.
We look forward to welcoming Scott Houghton-Richards as the man in the middle this weekend. Thorne have recently moved into the jurisdiction of the South Yorkshire Referees Society, after many years affiliated to East Yorkshire. With a strong bond with the Society, with club referees including Owen Taylor, Liam Taylor and many others, we will look to work closely with the Society this season.
The 2nds will travel to Abbeydale Road to face Sheffield 3rd XV. With a string 2nd XV in the Yorkshire merit premiership, Sheffield has a strong pedigree below the 1st team. With their 1st currently competing in Midlands Premier, spending last season in National 2 North. After a narrow last minute defeat to Yorkshire 4 side, Stanley Roddilians, the 2nds will look to work on the hard graft which has been put in around pre-season and throughout the pre-season campaign.
