Thornes returned to action after the Christmas break with an away fixture against Northfield Knights. They started brightly putting Northfield under significant pressure in the first few minutes. After 3 minutes a clearance from goalkeeper Ellis Pickard was misjudged by the Northfield defence allowing Pawel Topa to race onto it and poke past the keeper to score his first goal since returning to the club in December. Thornes continued to have the better of the early exchanges and could easily have added to their total. However, as the half wore on Northfield came back into the game, creating several chances of their own. Thornes managed to maintain their lead so went into the break 1-0 to the good.
Into the second half and once again Thornes started brightly, creating several chances to extend their lead. Pawel Topa came closest, beating the keeper but seeing his shot go just wide. Again though as the half wore on Northfield came more into the game. Thornes worked hard and defended resolutely as they were put under increasing pressure. On 60 minutes they definitely thought they had equalised, however the goal bound effort was clawed away by Ellis Pickard pulling off an outstanding save and keeping Thornes lead intact. Northfield continued to press right to the end of the game but Thornes held out for an impressive 1-0 away win, continuing their recent winning run. Man of the match was Alex Nolan for his impressive, all action display in Thornes midfield.
