Tilbury's early season form, remained a concern after losing 2-1 to local rivals Romford. Tilbury made one change from last Saturday's FA Cup game with Lewis Jaggs replacing Simon Peddie.
Only three minutes had been played at East Thurrock’s Rookery Hill ground when Romford opened the scoring through Roddy Lemba when he fired into the bottom corner of the net evading any challenge.
Tilbury pushed hard for an equaliser, seeing Lewis Smith fire across goal, before the first of a number of good saves by Romford keeper Rhys Hughes when a good move between Lewis Smith and Adam Vyse saw him make a fine save. Before the break Adam Vyse saw his 30 yard free kick well tipped wide.
Just after the break, Romford had a golden chance to increase the lead when they missed from 6 yards.
On 53 Romford were awarded a penalty when Khadean Campbell was tripped in the box by Abdus Salami and the referee pointed to the spot. Max Bolton stepped up to convert.
Tilbury hit back on the hour mark through Siju Odelusi from close range, after Rhys Hughes had saved an initial effort from Harry Norman. This forced Romford to defend in numbers as the Dockers searched for an equaliser.
Defender Ross Gleed failed to hit the target on 54, before a last minute James Walker effort was again saved brilliantly by Hughes.
The result see's Romford go top and Tilbury in 19th.
Tilbury welcome Basildon United on Saturday in the league.
