Andrew Hall at Club Registration Evening

By Tony Roberts

Andrew Hall, the County cricket captain and South African international, came to the club for the Registration Evening on Friday 9 March.

Andrew was joined by Derek Styman and Andy Hill from Northants Recreational Cricket.

After player registration for the new season had been completed a packed clubhouse heard about plans for the expansion of the building and the fund raising efforts that are just beginning.

Presentations from managers and coaches highlighted this year’s aim of introducing the more mature junior players to senior cricket by running a Development XI in the South Northants League where it is envisaged a young side will be supported by a group of seniors of varying ability.

The age group managers at Under 17, Under 15, Under 13, Under 11 and Kwik cricket gave their briefings for the season. Although the older teams hope to be very competitive in their competitions, the emphasis for the younger age groups is for maximum participation and fun.

The call for more volunteers, to help with growing club needs, was a constant theme. It was one that Derek Styman reinforced and he spoke of the support available from Northants Recreational Cricket.

A Q&A session with Andrew Hall was very well received and his assertion to Tows young cricketers about the need for hard work was, hopefully, absorbed. They were clearly shocked when told of the training and the life style demands of a professional sportsman. Andrew was generous with his time and many delighted youngsters left with autographs and photographs as mementos of the evening.

Thanks to all involved in organising the event, those who presented on the night and to Liz Fisher for arranging the raffle.
