Uxbridge come up short against Old Millhillians

By

A tough day for Uxbridge against a well drilled Old Millhillians

Uxbridge RFC took the short trip to face Old Millhillians on the back of a solid pre-season and opening round win over Old Isleworthians.

The hosts were a well-drilled side in both defence and attack making it hard for the visitors to settle and gain any momentum despite strong carries from Matt Coker, skipper Jake Lamport and tight-head prop & man of the match, Steve Partridge.

Following a penalty miss, the home side’s hard running and pressure eventually earned its reward with three tries in quick succession out wide to put some daylight between the two sides. Centre Marc Antoine Pinczon and hooker Sean McAndrew sadly succumbed to injuries and were replaced by debutant Jack Mochica and Craig Monaghan.

The visitors kept grafting and as the half-time whistle approached found themselves in the right areas of the pitch putting the Old Millhillians try line under pressure. Ieuan Jones penalty kicks were finding touch and after a few well-worked lineouts, Steve Partridge crashed over the line to open the Uxbridge account.

The second half started in much the same way as the first, with the hosts putting Uxbridge under pressure and running in several tries through a combination of their forward play and pacey back line.

Undeterred the visitors kept battling away and spent 10 minutes camped in the Old Millhillians half, but found their defence to be solid and despite the graft and toil, sadly were not able to add to the score.

A tough day out for the Uxbridge side against a very well organised Old Millhillians- final score 85-5.

A special mention must also go to Ieuan Jones and Matt Coker-both returning to university, and Marc Antoine Pinczon returning to France following his summer in England. The club wishes them all well.
Next week (Saturday 30 September) Uxbridge 1s have their first home game of the season against Harlequins Amateurs. Kick-off 3pm.
