Dave Powell retires

By Marcus Carmichael

Dave Powell confirmed his retirement at the 2010 AGM following 36 years with the club.

Big Dave played his first game for the club in 1973 and has been an ever present in the side. During his 36 years with the club he bowled 6,533 overs, most of them at the head of the bowling attack claiming over 1,308 wickets. His most memorable bowling display came at Bentley in 1992 where he finished with career best figures of 9/5.

Also handy with the bat, Dave scored over 6,618 runs which included 23 50's. His highest score with the bat was an impressive 86 against Epsom Methodists in 1998. It is also a worthy note that Big Dave is one of the clubs most prolific catchers with 221 to his name.

Dave retires as one of the legends of Waverley and the club would like to thank him for the dedication to the club he has shown over the years
