After a week of rain a youthful Westgate team entertained Carnforth on Saturday at Crosshill Park. Winning the toss Andy Hill decided to bat first and after 16 overs the home side were 30 - 3. Alex Briggs with a forceful 62 off 65 balls with 40 runs coming in boundaries then put on 90 runs with his watchful skipper, Hill who scored 32. Khan Puffett 22 off 8 balls including 3 massive sixes and Andreas Arestidou with a rapid 19no then enabled a declaration after 44 overs with a total of 168 for 8 - this was the highest score in all 5 divisions and credit must go to the groundstaff for producing an excellent track once more. Ryan Kitchen (3), Jack Thompson (2) and Alex Benson (2) were the wicket takers. In replyTom Parkinson, Bradley Hoyle and Adam Dixon all made starts and got themselves into double figures but all 3 perished to wonderful catches - 2 by Arestidou (who also claimed a run out) & 1 by Hill. The fielding and catching was the main difference between the sides as Carnforth subsided to 72 all out. Garry Tattersall claimed 3 victims, Hill and Arestidou each got two, whilst Sam Conroy & Dylan Conroy chipped in with 1 wicket each. The win keeps Westgate in second place with the top four all winning comfortably and pulling away from the rest of the league.
