Westgate got back to winning ways with a comprehensive victory against Burneside on a batters' paradise on Saturday at Cross Hill Park.
Burneside won the toss and batted, they lost the wicket of Steven Cooper who fell first ball to the aggressive Dylan Conroy. Veteran Peter Wilson then bowled Darren Nightingale for 7 and Burneside were in early trouble at 25 for 2 after 17 overs. A stand of 110 followed from Rob Davies (66) and the impressive Ethan Ellwood who made a superb 80 n. o. Marcus Oates (19 n. o.) added 50 in the last 6 overs in partnership with Ethan in a final total of 185 for 4 - a total that looked at least 20 short of par for the day. Conroy returned the best figures of 2 for 33, Wilson an economical 1 for 32 from 13 overs and Andy Hill a steady spell to keep the visitors acceleration under control.
The Westgate response started at pace with the score standing at 46 for 0 after 7 overs; both openers - Craig Buchanan (23) & a returning to form Garry Tattersall (18) were then removed by the bowling of Chris Dixon (3 for 33). Andreas Arestidou continued his recent good returns with a rapid 25 before a stand of 84 in just 11 overs by Sam Frith (35 n. o.) and the self appointed man of the match Dylan Conroy (51 n. o. in 32 balls with 42 runs from his last 19 balls) saw the home team romp to a 5 wicket victory with nearly 12 overs remaining and gain 15 points to move them up the table as the season approaches the half - way stage.
