Wick returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-1 win over north glos outfit Gala Wilton. However, it was Gala who reacted first and within 5 minutes from the kick off the ball was in the Wick's net, as Wick failed to deal with an attack down the right allowing Ryan Robbins a clear run on goal.
On 12 minutes consistent pressure from Wick nearly brought an equaliser, however a goal bound header from Dave Paterson was inadvertently blocked by Sam Baber. Both teams were playing some great football on a superb playing surface at the Oldbury Lane headquarters. Wick’s George Cryer 30 yard effort was superbly saved by Dan Brabham in the Gala Wilton goal half way through the first period. Wicks three man defence were looking organised, a complete change from last week. On 29 minutes, a great through ball from Wicks centre half Jack Baber found Joe Thomas on the left wing, who’s driving run down the flank and cross onto the box found Danny Sheldon unmarked to cooly finish to drew the sides level. The half finished with a Gala Wilton free kick from just outside the box beating the Wick wall, but not the Wick post, 1-1 at HT.
Wick started the second half brightly with Wicks Mike Hardiman stepping inside his marker to hit a low drive into the corner of the net from just inside the 18 yard box to give Wick the lead, 2-1. Wick were in control and made two substitutions on 60 and 75 minutes. Wick increased their lead on 76 minutes when debutant 17 year old Tyler Dacres smartly turned and shot just inside the box, after receiving a pass from Danny Sheldon to slid the ball under the advancing Gala Wilton keeper to make the score 3-1.
In the closing stages, Wick should have increased their lead, when Danny Sheldon rocket shot was partly saved by Brabham for the rebound to hit the crossbar from a Mike Hardiman chip.
This was a much improved performance from Wick FC, let’s see everyone back at training on Tuesday as we have another tough game next week, away to Thornbury Town in the league cup.
