What a season!

By James O'Grady

It's true to say that this past season has had many highs and lows in playing results, such is sport!

The struggle of WRU I to make headway in the 1st division, the majestic march to success of WRU II, the trials and tribulations of WRU IV and the ever improving fortunes of WRU III have all contributed to a full and eventful season

However, moving our little Table Tennis club to our new "mother" club at W.R.U.F.C has proved a huge success. We derive great joy and pleasure from the excellent facilities provided to us by the Committee and pride in being able to offer our opponents a venue that stands as one of the best available in the Halton area for playing table tennis.

With the committee's assistance we have made several small improvements to both the player safety aspect and appearance of the hall. The giant mirrors on the wall (when it was a fitness gym)have been removed and stored. The risk of an accident from crashing into these was low but the committee agreed with us they should be removed to reduce any chance of an accident.

The white walls (not the best background for table tennis) have been redecorated to "go with" the original blue painted walls.

We have installed catenary style curtains which divide the hall into three distinct courts so each team has it's own playing area, the curtains providing a means of reducing possible distractions.

Dave Holian has installed extra lighting above the tables for us (thanks Dave!) The light fittings themselves were sourced by a donation from the Table tennis members to a local school to whom they were surplus to requirements. A few extra pounds to spend on the children.

Although we talk in terms of this being our first year at the club, we have only been playing at W.R.U.F.C since September, a total of 7 months and the improvements we have made with the assistance of the W.R.U.F.C committee are a great source of pride to us.

We have four new members joining our little community for next season and two or three more are considering, committments permitting, taking up table tennis again having seen the facilities and amenities offered at "the Wids".

Our ambitions as a club are to provide the opportunity to play table tennis for anyone who wishes to.

The future?? ... Junior team(s) ... an all Ladies team(s) ... It's been some time since there was an ALL ladies team in the League.

See you later!

Oh..... don't forget the Family evening next friday, we will be there if you fancy trying your hand!
