The points were shared in a close game at Aldiss Park. After a poor opening Whitham's Lance Akins fired a low 30 yard drive into Elliot Pride's arms.
As they pressed again Shamido Pedula delivered a dangerous low ball across goal.
As Dereham brightened Danny Beaumont had an effort blocked and Dion Frary's fired wide. The visitors countered attacked with Usman Adeniji travelling deep inside the home box before Matthew Castellan made a great interception.
In the 42nd Minute Dereham's Owen Murphy drove through the centre before having his low drive saved by Lewis Moore. They then won a free kick 35 yards out; Danny Beaumont stepped up and beat visiting keeper Lewis with a superb curler that nestled in the top corner of the net to put the Magpies in front.
The home side nearly went further in front after the break when Frary's close range volley was deflected over the top.
As play opened Beaumont turned and shot wide before Whitham's Pedula centre sped across home keeper Pride's box. The visiting wide man then fired over the box when well placed.
Dereham's Rhys Logan used his pace to set up Beaumont but his shot flew over the bar.
Whitham equalised in the 82nd minute when Substitute Ryan Imbert netted from close range to give them the point they deserved.
