The wolf pack strikes!

Woking vs OG’s

After an uplifting pre-game talk by the 1st team coach. Woking men’s ones went out with a new formation and a hunger to win on our home pitch. They got prepared for the game and set up for the starting whistle to go.

When the starting whistle went we held the line as discussed. Although we got off to a slightly dodgy start allowing them to get into our half, they never had a threatening attempt at our goal. As we got accustomed to the formation and the play style we began to hold them off out of our twenty five and then our half.

The game went back and forth for some time until five minutes to the end of the first half when our captain Tom McLean shouted “plan A”. At that moment we all sprung into fifth gear and went on the offensive. Our previous formation meant that there was a void left on OG’s half and with a cavalry charge towards their goal Woking a 1-0 lead. As we strung a few passes together allowing our second wave of players to get ahead of the ball James Furness aligned himself incredibly for a cross sent in by Mossy allowing him to get a disgusting touch on the ball, slotting it past the keepers left foot again to give Woking a 1-0 lead

From the start of the next play we put enormous amounts of pressure onto Old Georgians who didn’t know what hit them. This lead to them giving us the ball at the half way line passing the ball wide and driving to the baseline and then whipping it 90 degrees to Max’s forehand he perfectly sent the ball roaring past the left foot of their keeper into the bottom right giving Woking a 2-0 lead finishing the first half.

At the beginning of the second half Woking went back to the starting formation of 4-5-1. Having a little experience this time we didn’t allow the opposition across the half way line as often. Although they broke our midfield down and split us through the middle the only threatening shot they took was blocked and smashed away by Max Deeley himself. After this scare we set out once again and this time finding easy passes from defence to midfield who then transferred it a couple times through the middle eventually finding the forwards on the wing who pressed on into the enemy D fooling the defender then gracefully passing it round the keeper to Ben waiting on the far post to tap it in the goal. With a massive roar Woking were 3-0 up.

Half way through the second half we were on the attack and almost into the enemy D. However this changed quickly when we lost the ball and didn’t react to a transition as well as we should of and they caught us on the counter and slipped past the forwards and midfield, eventually getting into our D and scoring a 1 on 1 with the keeper.

Although conceding we kept our heads high and played the game tour pace. Toward the end of the second half the players on the pitch heard the call “plan A” and once again with a rush of adrenaline we all stepped up the field to a full press. But this time they got it round us and into our 25. This didn’t matter though as Suggs, Robbie and Tom L all worked together to hold off the approaching threat and neutralise it almost instantly. Doing this freed a lot of space up top for the forwards, so a quick 16 lead to will being free in the middle who collected the ball and shelled it to Pikey further up field making an astonishing touch to Woody on the right wing who unleashed his god like pace towards goal. Pikey not out of it supported Woody picking it up on the edge of the D and driving it towards back post scoring a disallowed goal that turned into a penalty flick. This was easy for him placing it bottom right as if it was nothing. Ending the game at 4-1 to Woking men’s 1st team.
