Knaresborough face eighth placed Winterton Rangers this weekend at Manse Lane looking for another three points to consolidate their position at the top of the league. We stretched our lead to eight points last weekend when we defeated Ollerton 2-0 in a very professional win on the road. Our scorers last Saturday were Steve Bromley and Rob Youhill. None of our closest rivals played last weekend so we have now played the same number of games as Eccleshill whose game at Campion fell fowl to the weather. Hopefully the players will have recovered from Tuesdays exploits in the cup when we showed fantastic character to beat Maltby Main on penalties after extra time especially after going down to ten men midway through the first half. Joel Freeston got our goal in the first period of extra time and it finished 1-1 resulting in the penalty shoot out. We should be able to welcome back player coach Gregg Anderson and Dom Wilson who have been missing for the last couple of matches.
Winterton did not play last weekend as their game at home to Fc Bolsover was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Their most recent result was a couple of weeks ago when they had a 1-0 win away at East Yorkshire Carnegie when a Lewis Benrose penalty was the difference. Winterton currently sit in eighth place just three points behind sixth place Shirebrook so still have an excellent chance of being in the mix for a playoff spot at the end of the season. We will have to keep a close eye on their top scorer Luke Anderson who has found the net 20 times this season.
We have faced Winterton twice already this season both times away from home. We defeated them 3-0 in the league in September with goals from Blaine Hobson, Tom Hesketh and Brad Walker. We faced them again in November in the 2nd round of the league Cup and came away with a comfortable 4-0 win. This Saturdays encounter looks to be tougher prospect as Wintertons form has improved over the last couple of months and they are unbeaten in their last five games but we go into the match full of confidence after our recent run of results.
Lets get another big crowd down to Manse lane to get behind the team.
