Knaresborough make the trip (weather permitting) to the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium this Tuesday to face Selby Town after our match away at Hallam fell victim to the wet weather over the weekend. Selby also had a blank weekend as their home encounter with Campion was also postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Our last outing was a home victory against Retford where we ran out convincing 4-0 winners in front of an excellent crowd of 221. As has happened many times this season the goals were spread out and we had four separate scorers with Brad Walker, Matt Donnelly, Stephen Bromley and Sam Cook all finding the net. We again managed another clean sheet which was our 23rd in 35 games and we have now only conceded 18 goals which is some record. With both Grimsby Borough and Eccleshill failing to win their midweek games last week we edged that little bit closer to promotion. We now have a 16 point lead over 2nd placed Eccleshill who do have a game in hand.
Selby are in the mix for the playoffs although they have slipped to 9th place 4 points behind Glasshoughton who are 6th but they do have 2 games in hand. They have only had one win in their last five league games and they last league match ended in a 3-1 defeat away at Yorkshire Amateur. Liam Flannagan got their goal.
We played Selby just before Christmas at Manse Lane when we edged a close game 2-1 with Stephen Bromley and Dan Thirkell getting our goals. Selby do have two of the top scorers in the league in Joe Dale and Liam Flannagan so our defence is sure to be given a tough test.
It is sure to be another closely fought encounter so it would be great to see a decent following at Selby to support the team.
