Match Preview
Game two of the new season sees the Blues head into Essex for their opening away game of the season. Both sides enjoyed unbeaten starts Saturday, our hosts securing a draw in the battle of the Division One champions at Tooting & Mitcham while the Blues of course narrowly saw off Dorking Wanderers.

You have to go back to the 2001/02 season for the last competitive League meeting between the sides in the then Jewson League Division One, our inaugural season at step seven when Brightlingsea were United before becoming Regent. That season the Blues triumphed in both games, 2-1 away and 3-0 at home. Numerous pre-season friendlies have followed while the Regent gained revenge for those defeats 15 years previous with a thumping 6-3 win in the opening round of last season’s Alan Turvey (League Cup) Trophy. A much changed side well beaten, trailing 4-0 at half time before a late rally made the end score a little more respectable. After slipping out of step seven Brightlingsea spent some time re-grouping in the Essex and Suffolk Border League amalgamating with Regent Park Rangers before steadily tracking their passage to step three, finishing last season as Division One (North) Champions. Their first game at step three saw Richardson fire them into an early lead but they had to settle for a point.

The Blues will head to the Taydal Stadium with the same squad as Saturday meaning Chris Henderson will be available before sitting out the expected three games (Margate, Dulwich Hamlet & Lowestoft Town) following his red card Saturday. A tough encounter in prospect in Essex as we face the second of five difficult games in the opening month of the new season.
