Egham are another team that were once in the Isthmian League then transferred to the Southern after a period at Step 5 before being shunted back to the Isthmian this season. Come to think of it that's part of our history too though we only spent one season away from "home".

Egham had been in the Southern for five seasons before this one and got off to a slow start which, because of cup fixtures, still affects their league record and placing in the table. They have recently seen the departure of Simon Lane as manager and his replacement by Ashley Smith who had been player/assistant manager at Windsor in the Hellenic League.

It's too soon to tell what that change has brought about though an exit from the FA Cup only in a replay with Bostik Premier Brightlingsea Regent and an FA Trophy win at Bostik North AFC Sudbury suggests they are getting things together. For the moment however they remain third from bottom in the table.

Ware will want to build on Tuesday's win and produce a result to set a pattern and cancel fears that the midweek result was a flash in the pan. Aiden's Astroturf article in the programme (£1.50 on the gate) suggests that we need to take the long view and not build our hopes on individual results. He compares what is happening at the club and its infrastructure with what has happened at Stevenage. It's a good read.
