On the 2nd April 2016 Birstall will travel to play Stamford College Old Boys.

Birstall will go into this match aware that they need to leave with nothing less than a bonus point win.
They currently sit at the peak of the table on 73 points however, Northampton Men’s Own sit only 3 points behind on 70 and with a game in hand. NMO in form this season that sees them rarely leave the field without a bonus point win and ironically only having lost 2 games all season (home and away to Birstall).

Birstall will go into this game coming off the back of a funny old few weeks:

They suffered a heart stomping loss in the National Cup away to Buxton.

They then suffered a devastating loss to Bedford Queens which now may prove to have a huge impact on where Birstall 1XV finish in the table this season.

That all being said, these past few weeks has seen training sessions led by coaches Robbo and Woodpig reach new levels of intensity. It is safe to say that these two losses have definitely had a positive effect on the way that Birstall now train. Without giving too much away, sessions now are a lot more focused on certain areas that the coaches identified as areas needing improvement. Morale from training sessions alone has reached a high level and a part of that is thanks to the re-introduction of “BOOM AVENUE”.

Birstall 1XV got back to winning ways last week on Saturday 19th March 2016, they were host to Sileby. Birstall playing like they did at the beginning of the season put on a great display of rugby. They came away with a 51-7 victory over Sileby. This result clearly had a huge impact on Sileby 1XV as they then backed out of their game this weekend against Northampton Men’s Own giving them a walkover 5 point victory. Players still feeling the effect of the game against Birstall, who knows?

Birstall will head to Stamford 100% ready for the match and that will be clear from the kick off. They know what they need to do and every player in that 1XV will be going out to keep their shirt.

Stamford goes into this game having not won a game this year and they find themselves battling at the bottom end of the table. Birstall will not go into this game thinking that it will be easy. They are well aware that Bourne has a game in hand over Stamford and if Bourne can secure a 5 point victory then that would see Stamford drop into a relegation place. So Birstall are well aware that Stamford is going to be wanting this just as much as Birstall.

This will be a match that could see some well drilled rugby and will hopefully be exciting for all.
