It doesn't seem that long ago that our 1st XV were opening the season with a visit to Watford and now the final away game of the season is upon us. In terms of league position there is nothing to play for (although Royston did tell their local paper that they still have a slim chance of finishing as champions) but pride will be at stake. Royston are defending a 100% home record and our players and coaching team will want to finish the season by continuing the unbeaten run that started in October.
Royston's 31-15 victory over Bank of England on the second Saturday of 2018 made them favourites to pick up the second promotion spot and they have gone on to win their subsequent games whilst Bank have since slipped up against Staines, Hendon and London Welsh.
Our teams met in early December for the first leg of our league encounters. First half tries by Elis Staines, Chris Carns, Rhys Howells and Ben Francis, all converted by Rhys Tudur Davies, created a 28-6 lead after 40 minutes. Neither team were able to add to their score in the second half. Royston have only lost two other times during the season, at Bank and at Staines, and have picked up 14 bonus points along the way. Unbeaten in the league since before Christmas, Royston are finishing their season with a flourish having scored just short of 200 points in their last four games.
London Welsh Supporters Club will be running a coach to this game. The bus will leave ODP at 11.30am and costs are £15 SC members and £18 for non-members.
