This weekend Kempston Rovers take on Farnborough at Hillgrounds. Rovers are freshly buoyed by their first win this calendar year as the run in to the end of the season begins to gather momentum.
Rovers have now collected six points from their last five games in the league and are unbeaten in their last three.
Farnborough will arrive with five wins in their last six, although significantly their defeat in that run was against fellow play off challengers Marlow, where they suffered a 3-0 loss.
In the reverse fixture back in October, Farnborough ran out 3-2 winners. Rovers’ goals coming from Danny Watson and Sam Johnson.
Farnborough currently sit in second place in the league, having been relegated from the Ryman Premier Division last season, despite not finishing in the bottom four. Smart tip – do not ask any Farnborough fans for their thoughts on this matter. Founded in 2007 after the demise of predecessors Farnborough Town, ‘Boro’ worked their way up the pyramid from Division One South & West of the Southern League (the sister of their current division) and worked their way as high as Conference South in 2010. They were relegated from Step 2 in 2015, added to last season’s demotion, Farnborough are back at the level at which they started. Currently in second, they do look on course to finish in the play-off positions, although the title is not out of their grasp just yet, it would take an extraordinary set of circumstances for Boro to knock Royston off their perch.
