Saints return to league action this Saturday in a game sponsored by our good friends at Tristan Hicks Electrical following two physically demanding games against local rivals Truro. The Saints were victorious in both games, one league and one cup, and go into this fixture against Burnham-on-sea reasonably pleased with their form.
Our Sinners return to action also at home kicking off at 2:30 against Saltash in what should be another tough but entertaining game
Burnham have had a torrid start to the season and have yet to register a win. They have, however, begun to turn the corner and in their most recent game registered a 17 all draw against Wadebridge Camels who at the time were in 4th place. We all know what a great side the Camels are and that result may have been just what the Somerset side needed to give them some belief and kick start their season. We will underestimate them at our peril !!!
The Saints have been playing some great rugby recently. What has been particularly pleasing has been the variety of tries we have scored with forwards and backs both joining in to keep the scoreboard ticking over. In addition we have managed to blood several younger players due to injuries and unavailability and still maintained our good form.
One area of concern certainly in the last cup game was the number of points that we conceded. We pride ourselves on our defence and treat that as an opportunity to be aggressive and impose ourselves so to leak 23 against Truro was disappointing. We discussed briefly in the post-match huddle and the lads know that this is one area that we will be concentrating on this week.
While defences these days are more technical, a good attitude is one thing that has never changed. A team prepared to work and support each other to stop points being conceded is a team not afraid to do the unglamorous and often unheralded hard work. We will be looking to improve this area
So let’s make sure that our guest are afforded a warm and friendly Tregorrick greeting and look forward to a couple of belting games of rugby..... COYS !!!!
This will be preceded at 1245 by a presentation from the Town Council to the players and Club Officials in recognition of the historic Tribute County Cup win achieved last season. This will be carried out by Graham Walker and colleagues.
