Eccleshill United FC started 2017 with a well-earned point away from home at Penistone Church FC, and will be hoping to recreate a similar performance on Saturday afternoon as they face Teversal at home in the league.
The Eagles have been playing well recently, despite losing to top placed Emley away and then drawing two consecutive games against 2nd placed Penistone. In some ways Eccleshill will count themselves unlucky to not have won at least one of those games, but it is clear the team is playing with confidence.
Teversal have also looked good recently, with two wins and a draw in their last three games. They currently sit in 15th, three places below Eccleshill, but are only four points behind.
With a win, Eccleshill could leapfrog Winterton Rangers in 11th place if Winterton lose, something Sean Regan’s men will want to do as they look to improve their league standings.
The sides have met once before in the first game of the current season, and Eccleshill were convincing 3-1 winners in that fixture, a result that would not go amiss now.
Luke Harrop will be a big miss for Eccleshill, as he will serve his one match ban for the controversial red card he received in the feisty away game at Penistone.
New signing Jonny Irving is also still a doubt due to a small ankle injury, so he will also miss this game and will have to wait a little while longer to make his debut for the club.
In the first edition of “Captain’s View”, squad captain Sam Bradley had this to say about the sides recent form and their preparation for the game against Teversal; “Looking ahead to the weekend I want us to push on from two positive draws against Penistone and pick up three points and get back to winning ways.”
The whole squad seem ready and raring to go, and there has been a few stand out performers recently. Matty Waller has impressed since joining Eccleshill at the end of 2016, and if he plays, he will be a direct threat to Teversal.
With performances improving, The Eagles will be looking up the table and hoping to get the results to match those performances to begin fighting for a play-off spot again.
