The Eagles are back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they make the short trip to Leeds to face a tough Garforth Town side, in their final game of 2018.
Eccleshill are looking to add to their seven game unbeaten run in all competitions when they face Garforth at the Bannister Prentice Stadium, a formidable run that stretches all the way back to Halloween.
Sean Regan’s side showed great character to preserve the streak in their last game, where they were 1-0 down at home against Athersley Recreation until the 72nd minute. Two quickfire goals from Luke Harrop and Khurram Shazad, and a late comforter scored by Jake Thompson ensured that the run continued.
Garforth fell to a narrow 1-0 away defeat away at Liversedge in their last outing, a result they will want to bounce back from when they welcome The Eagles to their ground.
Garforth’s form has lacked a bit of consistency recently, with two wins and two losses from their four games in December so far. Prior to that, The Miners went through the whole of November without a win. A win against Eccleshill would be the perfect end to 2018 for them, and Regan’s men will know they are not in for an easy afternoon.
The reverse fixture of this game earlier in the season produced a 0-0 draw at the Mitton Group Stadium, which despite the score line, was a highly entertaining game. Both sides had big chances throughout the game, but both defences and goalkeepers were in fine form and were in no mood to concede.
Four spots and 10 points separate the two sides in the league standings, with The Eagles sitting in ninth place on 31 points. Garforth have also played one more game, so Regan’s side have a chance to build a bigger gap between themselves and the bottom half of the table with a win.
Top scorer Jake Thompson was on target again on Saturday, taking his tally to seven goals in all competitions. He will be hoping to continue in his rich vein of form and add some more goals as he continues to impress in his maiden season at the club.
Tomorrow’s game is brilliantly poised as two sides who have already fought out an entertaining draw look to secure all three points this time round, and end 2018 with a bang.
