After their great performance at Coventry on October 7th, our players will doubtless be relishing the prospect of a quick return to the Midlands and another rugby hotbed at Birmingham Moseley.
It's hard to get a feel for our hosts' strengths and weaknesses, since they don't appear to publish match reports, but a scan of their player profiles reveals a busy summer of recruiting and many players with experience of playing at higher levels, but almost no home grown players. Ones to look out for are:- prop, James Tidewell, who played against us for Cinderford last season, prior to which he had spells at Yorkshire Carnegie,London Welsh, Irish and Plymouth Albion; backrow and Captain, Buster Lawrence, just returned from 3 seasons with Rotherham Titans, after 2 previous seasons at BM, before which he played against us for Dings Crusaders; scrumhalf, Rob Lewis with caps for Wales U18/19/20s , Wales 7s and the Barbarians; player coach, Tim Molenaar, a 36 year old centre who played for London Welsh, Quins and Gloucester; and Chris Brightwell, a 33 year old backrow from New Zealand with time at Sale Sharks and Bedford Blues, who is also on the coaching staff. Another old foe, who recently benched for BM is prop, Jay Tyack, who played against us for Chinnor last season!
Although currently sitting 3 points below us in the league, BM's first 7 fixtures have included games against Ampthill, Coventry, Darlington MP and Blackheath, so they will certainly be looking to move up the league and another tough match can, therefore be expected this week. If our boys can reproduce the intensity and accuracy that they showed so recently at Coventry, though, then another win is surely within their compass. COYB!
